The smell is also incredible it reminds you of those Christmas candles you can buy but why not make your own dessert and not only will you have a great smell in the house you will get to the taste the end result which is just incredible! Spiced poached pears are a heathy alternative to a decadent dessert and yet still exquisite enough to serve for a Christmas dessert. So why not give it a try…

Ingredients:

-4 pears (not too ripe)

-175g caster sugar

-1 vanilla pod

-3/4 bottle red wine

-1 star anise

-1 cinnamon stick

Method:

1. Start off by peeling the pears carefully making sure they stay whole and the stalks stay on and then place to one side.

2. Next start off by placing the red wine, sugar, cinnamon stick, star anise and also scrape out the seeds in the vanilla pod and add them to the saucepan as well. Bring everything to a medium simmer.

3. Then once the mixture is warm add in the pears making sure they’re covered in the liquid. Then add a lid on top of the saucepan and simmer on a low heat for approximately 30 minutes. To check if the pears are done pierce a cocktail stick through the pears and if they feel tender they’re ready.

4. Once the pears are ready, remove them from the pan and with the remaining sauce, let it reduce for another 10 minutes until you have a syrupy texture- this will be great poured over the pears when serving!

Serve this amazing dessert with you favourite dollop cream and enjoy!
